This year’s dance performance by the 4th year of the art high school, majoring in contemporary dance, draws its inspiration from the theme of this year’s graduation text by Edvard Kocbek, Fear and Courage. It is a collection that received a stormy response when it was published in 1951. A political scandal erupted, which led to Kocbek’s withdrawal from public life, and due to severe political pressure, he was forced to retire and withdraw from public life for more than a decade. The dance performance does not arise directly from work, but rather takes fear and courage as an integral part of the identity of a young person who encounters fears and courage on a daily basis – and who believes that dance also has a special place in this “transcendence” of their own daily fears and intimidation from the outside. Dance indeed; as a tool – and as a weapon – that does not have to be picked up like a book, but practiced collectively.
