Siniša Labrović: FACES OF EUROPE

Paper bags with printed faces will be available an hour before each event at the box office of festival venues.

At the beginning of 2020, Croatia took over the European Union presidency, and with it, the future of the European Union. Croatian conceptual artist Siniša Labrović, currently based in Berlin, who uses his works to address the sore points of society, took this opportunity to remind us of the historical roots of European identity. He selected 22 iconic personalities that marked its historical, scientific, cultural and artistic, architectural, economic and sports life. The package consists of 11 men and 11 women – as a metaphorical number of players occupying a football pitch – including Stalin, Marie Curie, Josip Broz Tito, Simone de Beauvoir, Cristiano Ronaldo, Twiggy, and Angela Merkel. Mladi levi festival added two names to the iconography of Europe in collaboration with the artist: the popstar of philosophy Slavoj Žižek and the world renowned actress of Slovene origin, Ita Rina. Faces of Europe, which manifested themselves in the shopping bags with printed faces of icons, is a collective participatory work that invites visitors to put on a mask and place the images of figures in unusual contexts. When we put on the masks of these personalities, we take on their role and become even more aware that we, too, are the creators of history, of our own lives, as well as the lives of future generations. You are invited to share your experience of the created situation with a mask with the Mladi levi festival and the artist Siniša Labrović.

Send us photos or videos to info@bunker.si and attach your name, name of the mask and the place, where you recorded it (you can use wetransfer.com to send attachments).
We will be happy to share your contributions on social networks.
