International Conference Together for Housing

We kindly invite you to the international conference Together to Housing, which is located in the time and space of the aggravated housing crisis and offers insight into non-speculative community housing solutions that work well abroad and could significantly contribute to solving the housing issue in Slovenia.

Access to adequate housing is a fundamental human right, which is the basis for a dignified life and is a precondition for the exercise of all other fundamental rights. In Slovenia, since independence – in the complete absence of an active housing policy – this right has been slowly but steadily declining. In a state of aggravated housing crisis, when more and more people are denied access to adequate housing, new answers to the housing question are urgent.

The conference will present two good practices – the Kohlenrutsche Housing Cooperative in Vienna and the Brussels-based Community Land Fund, which will be the starting point for discussing the role of public actors in facilitating such housing projects and their impact on housing and society. The second part of the conference will present some initiatives for housing cooperatives from the local area – from Ljubljana, Maribor and Hrastnik. Together with representatives of public actors, we will discuss the current problems in providing affordable housing and the barriers that plague initiatives to establish housing cooperatives, and how to promote new housing solutions in our country.

The housing market itself is nowhere to be found and will never provide housing for all social groups. We therefore hope that the conference will promote an understanding of the benefits of community-based forms of non-profit housing, which, with public support, can make a significant contribution to increasing affordable and quality housing and have many other positive social impacts.

You are kindly invited to join us and think with us about what forms of housing will best address modern living needs and how to encourage their development in our area.

Registration for the event is mandatory. You are invited to apply. We are collecting applications until March 15, 2022.
