What Do I Need?

Le kaj rabim? (What Do I Need?) is a long-form improvised performance created by high-school improvisers who participate throughout the year in the ŠILA (School Impro League) program run by the IMPRO Association. Under the guidance of young mentors, they developed the show during a summer camp.The performance explores the needs, pressures, and wishes of young people living in local communities. It stages these themes through three initially separate storylines that gradually intertwine as the show unfolds. The onstage action is directly connected to local youth: a few hours before each performance, the ensemble leads a workshop with young people from the area. Their stories, impressions, and reflections shape the performance, weaving together what they appreciate about their hometown, what they wish could be improved, and which initiatives might be valuable to pursue in the future.
The show serves as a kind of indicator of how welcoming and supportive a place is for its young residents—and what we, as a community, might do to help them navigate life more easily and find a sense of home where they feel good, safe, and accepted.

ŠILA – the School Impro League is a nationwide program of the IMPRO Association, involving around 30 secondary schools across Slovenia and running continuously since 1997. Through weekly sessions with their mentor, students learn the skills of improvisational theatre, develop critical thinking and creativity, and spend part of their free time in a meaningful, collaborative way. Throughout the year, they also participate in several performances, creating primarily short-form improvised scenes and competing in friendly matches with teams from other schools.
