Three Hail Marys and One Our Father (A Concert Storytelling Performance)
The musical ensemble Three Hail Marys and One Our Father was formed through the collaboration of renowned musicians Polona Janežič, Boštjan Narat, and Vesna Zornik (all members of the band Katalena), storytellers Ana Duša and Špela Frlic, and director Mare Bulc, known for his work on the theatrical hit Čefurji raus!.
In this contemporary adaptation of three Slovenian folk ballads, along with Danish and Macedonian stories, heads roll from shoulders, women fall from walls, and blood mixes with kisses—love and death intertwine. And, of course, storytelling and music take center stage.
The performance features excerpts from Slovenian folk songs The Nun; Love Grinds in the Heart; Lenčica, Gregc’s Cousin; and The Castle Lady Kills the Steward’s Son, all taken from Slovenske narodne pesmi, a collection edited by Dr. Karol Štrekelj. The Roses is based on the Danish folk tale The Red and White Rose, as recorded by Tom Muir, while The Foundling is inspired by Vampire, a story by Macedonian author P. A. Andreevski.
