In recent years, Slovenia has witnessed a marked rise in systemic hostility toward the LGBTIQ+ community. Discriminatory legislative proposals, propagandistic figures in party-affiliated publications, transphobic narratives in mainstream media, manuals for organized pressure against LGBTIQ+ issues in schools, and targeted violence at community events—although differing in form—are all part of coordinated efforts to marginalize the LGBTIQ+ community.

In response to the lack of systemic measures, a unit for the protection of the human rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals—Na radarju (“On the Radar”)—was established. It brings together several non-governmental organizations working in the field of sexual minorities in Ljubljana (ŠKUC, DIH, Legebitra, Ljubljana Pride, OPEN, and TransAkcija), and is preparing an Analysis of Media-Supported Hatred Against Sexual Minorities in Slovenia. The lecture situates media, as well as academic and political narratives of gender, within a broader historical, social, and political context.

Neo Nova is the president of the Legebitra association and the former director of the TransAkcija institute, where they led the advocacy and education program.
