Technical Workshop: Basics of Light and Sound – Workshop is full

Bunker is organising a technical workshop for beginners in cooperation with the City of Women. The workshop is aimed at those interested in the world of sound and light design. The aim of the workshop is to give the participants the basic theoretical knowledge of working with sound signals (instruments, vocals, etc.) and light, while at the same time providing a hands-on experience covering editing, basic electrical engineering and understanding the physical laws related to light and the integration of sound inputs and outputs live and in the studio.

The workshop will take place over four days:
17, 18, 19 and 20 February, each day from 10.00 to 16.00.

Mentors: Žan Rantaša (light) and Žan Ambrožič (sound)

Prerequisites:
1. No knowledge of the activities required. The workshop is intended for beginners who are interested in working behind the scenes and is a good starting point for further learning.

Results:
1. Individual understands the basic concepts and equations related to the physical understanding of the profession: how to handle the equipment, how to connect it and how to prepare it for communication with the mixing table with which it is “programmed”.
2. Familiarity with the basic concepts related to the profession of “sound designer”: how the process works, the creative and technical approach to the work and the understanding of sound.
3. Basic functions and processes of ‘sound mixing’ with analogue and intelligent mixing consoles. Understanding analogue and digital audio signals, reading technical riders and stage plans and executing according to given instructions.

Activities:
– We will cover the basic theory – the physical equations behind it and understanding how audio inputs and outputs are connected.
– We will play with different microphones, instruments and effects – comparing the results of manipulating sound with them.
– We will come up with a concept for a performance or on-stage performance, and connect it into the sound system and “mix” it.
– The whole process will be interactive and not just a lecture.
– A pen and notebook are recommended.

The workshop will take place at the Old Power Station – Elektro Ljubljana, Slomškova 18, Ljubljana.
