Special Edition

Special Edition is a project that has been bringing together diverse creators from dance, music, theatre, and visual arts and is now in the 7th year of its ongoing development, still enriching the Slovenian and international space with connecting, exchange, reseraching new possible perfomative aesthetics.

It is a series of instantly composed pieces, in which performers respond to one another within agreed frameworks, following the principles of open choreography and musical improvisation. Through the heightened attention, responsiveness, tracking, and manipulation, they continuously create the structures of individual pieces, composed of movement and sound images. Out of which patterns emerge that transform into visual-sound impressions, and even potential narratives.

With each new edition, “Posebna izdaja” introduces fresh developments—while in 2026 it opens up to a new aspect by including diverse performers; genre- and age-wise, working at the intersections of dance, music, and visual art.
Through a series of performances and workshops in instant composition, the project explores new dialogues between movement and sound, between structure and improvisation, between the visual and the auditory—between body and space. The project remains faithful to its essence: responsiveness, presence, and openness as well as using compositional posibilities, familiarities, particularities.

Over six years, “Posebna izdaja” has connected 42 creators, presented 34 performances at 12 different venues at home and abroad, and received two prestigious awards: the Župančič Award and the Ksenija Hribar Award (both in 2021). At the end of 2024, the publication Posebna izdaja 2020–2024: photographs – writings – reflections was also released—a poetic photo book with reviews and texts and participants’ reflections, both as a documentation and inspiration for the continuation of the project.
