Playground: Head in the Clouds

Playground is a Catalan theater company specializing in object theater, founded in 2003 by actor Xavier Bobés. Head in the Clouds was his first creation and has since toured numerous festivals. The performance is built around children’s toys, which the protagonist skillfully brings to life using object manipulation, Chinese shadow puppetry, dance, and digital animation.

The story unfolds as follows: one morning, a young woman is abandoned by her lover. The storyteller-animator takes us through her suffering, the shards of her broken heart, her desires, and longings—until she finally finds new love and falls in love again. As the creators of the show put it: “For us, the reality of the stage and fantasy are one and the same.”
It’s no surprise, then, that Head in the Clouds is full of magical moments, making it a performance suitable for audiences of all ages.
