Petra Varl: SPACE IN TWO ACTS: ACT TWO
Petra Varl is a visual artist that for a number of years worked in the media of drawing and graphic arts, but is currently interested in the spectator, his position and experience in the space. The latter is also addressed in the Space in Two Acts. In Act One, the artist submerged her works wrapped in paper into a white cube filled with fog. By that, she transformed her 30 years’ history of creating into a new work of art and with this act said goodbye to her past work.
Thereby, she made space for Act Two, where she invites a spectator into the white cube, who replaces the images of the artist’s history. The deliberation on the artwork condenses in the visitor’s experience of his own body and space, voice and light. Act Two of the Space in Two Acts is an experience dedicated to the individual in which, with minimal and refined means, Petra Varl is reshaping our understanding of space and the body we inhabit.
