Mladi levi: FLOWERS AND BEER

Installation will be open from Tuesday, 26 August to Saturday, 30 August, during the program in Stara elektrarna.

Čarna Lampret and Ajda Pirtovšek’s installation Flowers and Beer underlines gender stereotypical divisions with a gesture of subversive affirmation. Located in the toilets, the installation exacerbates the gender division of the only room in the Power Station where gender division is already signalled at the door. And it is precisely this remaining division that needs to be addressed, exposing the gendered character of the spaces, the overt stereotypes and the hidden gendered fears of society. As the authors themselves humorously ask, “If toilets are always segregated by gender, why aren’t they furnished in a stereotypical way?” At the same time, their installation offers a gesture of hospitality, transforming our basement and remote spaces intended for urgent needs into places of pleasure, respite, relaxation, beauty and humour!
Čarna Lampret and Ajda Pirtovšek are Acting and Art of Movement students at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana. Both participated in the first season of the educational programme in devised theatre, Direction B, mentored by Tjaša Črnigoj and Tery Žeželj. The installation was created as part of the final presentation of Direction B.
