MLADI LEVI FESTIVAL: STARA ELEKTRARNA – 20 Years
On 20 August 2004, the 7th Mladi Levi Festival began with the opening of the Old Power Station – the more than a century-old building was given a new mission and content, becoming a rehearsal centre and a venue for contemporary performing arts, a black box theatre.
The opening event was called If We Didn’t Exist, We Would Have To Be Invented, a tribute to the scene that had fought for the space, and an announcement of the programme to come. Over the past twenty years, the Old Power Station has become an important local and international venue, hosting everything from the first artistic experiments to performances by established artists, as well as hosting festivals and occasional music, film and discursive programmes.
In August 2024, the 27th Mladi Levi Festival will end with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Old Power Station; on 31 August we will pay tribute to two decades of work at the Old Power Station, celebrate the closing of the festival and at the same time launch the new, 21st season of the Old Power Station.
GOLDEN LIGHTNING
On the occasion of our 20th anniversary of the Old Power Station, Bunker has decided to introduce seasonal awards – the Golden Lightning Awards will be presented by a five-member jury (Gregor Butala, Tjaša Črnigoj, Mojca Jug, Suzana Koncut, Špela Kopitar), which will select the outstanding artists, performances, cultural workers, projects and programmes for the 2023/2024 season.
We are aware of the inflation of the awards, but we still believe that peer recognition, exposure and celebrating success and excellence together are important in our undervalued sector. The award ceremony will be hosted by Nataša Živković.
