Liza Šimenc, Anja Mejač: EMBRACE
dance intervention
Embrace is a dance-movement event by authors Liza Šimenc and Anja Mejač, which combines a dance score with a real moment of meeting in an embrace.
The dancers agree to meet. A look, a smile, a hug – the point of contact between a real greeting and everything that follows. They are interested in the idea of dance as a consequence when it happens, as a consequence of sensory stimuli. With this poetic action, which they perform in different times and spaces, they emphasize the importance of stopping and listening. Sometimes forgetting the rhythms and systems that dictate our lives, and looking back at the authenticity, the liveliness that was given to us, and is so fragile in its vulnerability.
The research represents a continuation of the two-year author’s opus (2022-2023) entitled ALLO. Between March 8th and April 5th 2024, every weekday with a duration of 20 minutes was performed at the Ajdovščina in Ljubljana. In July 2024, Embrace with three interventions was part of the DaCi Child International festival organized by JSKD, and in November 2024, it was part of the Open Studio as part of the Cofestival.
