Goran Bogdanovski: JANEZ

Janez is a dance solo about Janez. On his creative and touring journey—Ljubljana, New York, Ljubljana, Moscow—Janez will transform into John, then back into Janez, and even into Иван. Goran Bogdanovski is Janez, and together with director Tomi Janežič, he explores character.
Bogdanovski embodies a wide range of personas—from a skinny boy to Superman to a Gandhi-like figure. Using music and sound as reference points, Janez moves through a series of characters, his body transforming before the audience’s eyes, expressing complex emotions and prompting reflection on the relationship between inner feelings and external, physical transformation. Or perhaps, through movement and positioning, he triggers emotional responses in the opposite direction, using the body to force an emotional reaction. And how does Janez change in different countries?

Goran Bogdanovski is a choreographer, dancer, performer, teacher, and artistic director of Fičo Balet. His background is in ballet and later contemporary dance, having collaborated with over seventy choreographers and directors. He founded Fičo Balet, co-founded Gibanica, the Slovenian dance platform, and is a driving force behind the Nomad Dance Academy, an educational and research project.
