CONTEXT 005: DISCOllective

DISCOllective is a prominent figure on the contemporary performance landscape, transcending any genre definitions and impossible to be packaged into existing categories of artistic production, genres or modes of creation. He is an artist and researcher who works in roles such as dancer, choreographer, performer, clown, teacher, writer, producer and creates in formats such as dance, performance, installation, event, cabaret, publication, clown cabaret, workshop, book, video. He is the recipient of several awards in the field of performing arts.

The creators of this year’s Context, the performing artists Dragana Alfirević and Maja Dekleva Lapajne, choose not an exhibition of texts and archival photo- and video-documentation, but a performative installation, inviting a number of DISCOllective’s collaborators to take part in it.
You are invited to walk among the people who have had the opportunity to co-create with DISCOllective.
You are invited to listen to testimonies of work and inspiration.
You are invited to touch the bodies in which the traces of DISCOllective ‘s work are accumulated and further developed.

CONTEXT is a support programme of the Bunker Institute in development, which tries to emphasize the importance of the Old Power Station space and map the archives of the creators who traverse this space. It is about treating artists with a wide-angle lens: finding and emphasizing the connections between time, biography and the previous work of an artist, which results in a kind of extracted installation, and tries to better root the author and offer a basis for reading the new work in the context of time and their past oeuvre.
The main goals of the Context are the understanding of and research into the author’s work as a continuous artistic practice, thus establishing an understanding of the works of art as part of a longer journey, which is not just a series of unrelated points (performances).
