Branko Potočan: OCCUPYING
DEAR VISITORS! IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NEW CONDITIONS FOR VISITING CULTURAL EVENTS, VTR CONDITIONS APPLY TO VISIT THE THEATER.
How to be alone on the chair – or to be a chair left alone?
The new performance by Branko Potočan & Fourklor group is not so much about “sitting” as a physical category as it is about the phenomenon of “occupying”; occupying spaces, edges, each other, oneself. To sit means to rule. A ruler is enthroned by somebody. Somebody gets his chair pulled from under him, and it costs him a seat. Some try to sit on two or more chairs, others are confined to a chair. To say someone is confined means he is in prison. All seats are occupied. Someone who doesn’t know where to go can sit around. Somebody can fall off his chair, and can take a backseat to someone else. A neighbour. Some are kept on the edge of their seats, others are chairmen at work. Some are rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, I’m flying by the seat of my pants, and the world needs to buckle its seat belt, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
The project focuses on the body, defining the author’s approach to the treatment of the body, his relationship to other bodies, objects, props, and above all – to another, (un)occupied space. All of this is an input impulse that opens up a range of possibilities for establishing a new mode of being and the issue of being alone – and with methods and strategies that bring a not-yet-occupied story of occupying oneself, the city and the world.
