Opening up the terrain of artistic landscapes between fiction and fact

After more than fifty performances over the course of a decade, it’s time to hear directly from the creators and performers about their relationship to fiction and reality. How does the perspective change over the years, while the dilemmas remain the same; if the stage speaks of real events that trigger very specific reactions, is it worth updating those events (is every terrorist attack a carbon copy of another one)? If the artist mentioned in the performance is watching it, should this be included? If we speak of ourselves (and we can only speak of ourselves) in approximations of reality, which the audience then perceives them as (f)actual, is the appropriate response to resist or to surrender? Where, at the intersection of fiction and facts that we enjoy, do we realise that new imperative realities have been produced, and what do we do with self-fulfilling prophecies that aren’t very pleasant? Perhaps the audience must spit in our mouths, as God did to Cassandra, so that no one will believe us anymore. Or perhaps the performance must be buried.

Far from it. It is all a fact of contemporary theatre. So: Cheers, Facts!
