the German Cycle – BETON LTD.: HOPPLA, WIR LEBEN. THE LOST GESTURE OF SELF RESIGNATION

Final Act of the German Cycle

Performation

The performation Hoppla, wir leben. The Lost Gesture of Self Resignation is the final act of the Beton Ltd.’s German Cycle, which complements the performances Ich kann nicht anders (2016) and Große Erwartungen I Great Expectations (2018), and the music-performance hybrid project Mahlzeit (2019).
In terms of content, performation addresses the question of what’s going on in society so that no one uses the gesture of resignation anymore, as well as the question of the performer’s resignation in relation to the audience, a resignation from the stablished production of theatre art while radically reconsidering one’s own model of collectivity, extended autonomy and non-hierarchy.

In a subversive position of living while not really living, Beton Ltd. refuses to accept any currently established or acquired theatrical form (certain forms take the edge off certain contents). This time, we embraced reduction as the basic artistic principle that led to the creation of a performation, as we define the work ourselves.

In order to avoid misinterpretations, Hoppla, wir leben is not about abandoned ore future scenography, but rather a form that is closer to installation, while building it theatrical tension through personal interpretations of members of the resigning collective and the interpretations of the invited guests, who will be leading the guided tours through the performation.

Program of the German Cycle

PERFORMATION is open from friday, 13th May at 7.00 until 15th May at midnight, non stop.

GUIDED TOURS SCHEDULE

Friday, May 13 at 7 p.m. – Andreja Kopač: Happy B Day
The opening tour of the performation Hoppla, wir leben. The Lost Gesture of Self Resignation by the Beton Ltd. collective will take place in the form of a performation of excerpts from a freshly published book, supported by reading interpretations and accompanied by meandering between thoughts and feelings in celebration of the collective’s tenth birthday. It is time for the Word. To continue the End. To end the Beginning.
Performers: Andreja Kopač, Katka Slosar, Aja Markovič and Ota Breza.

Saturday, May 14 at 6 p.m. – Lea Kukovičič: And Other Things That Are Hard to Name
There are two types of collectivity in the Beton Ltd. collective: the 10 year old collectivity of Beton Ltd. and the 21-year-old collectivity of Katarina Stegnar, Primož Bezjak and Branko Jordan. The 10 year old collectivity of Beton Ltd. seems to have lost its life and to be have been written out. It seems to no longer exists outside of words. They are withdrawing from this collectivity. In contrast, the 21-year-old collectivity of Katarina Stegnar, Primož Bezjak and Branko Jordan is verbally unarticulated. The only record that exists is in the form of 21 titles of ephemeral visual works of art (with years of creation and description of materials) created as part of the FORSALE project. The guided tour And Other Things That Are Hard to Name uses the 21 works of art to try and get a feel for the collectivity that is beyond words.

Saturday, May 14 at 7 p.m. – Počemučka: Hoppla!
If Beton Ltd. sets the performation as a turn from The Artist is Present to The Artist is Presence, Počemučka continues with The Artist is Absent. The tour addresses the evasiveness of resignation.

Sunday, May 15 at 11 a.m. – Petra Varl: Third Act: First Act for the Last Time, General Public
Petra Varl and the Beton Ltd. collective connect the question of meaning, process and method of their artistic practice so far with the consequent gesture of abandoning the old method (of staging/exhibiting) and partially replacing it with another, while traveling toward each other in relation to their starting points. Instead of a classic guided tour of the performation Hoppla, wir leben, Petra invites us to her own space for her own event, which shows her version and her already staged, very similar reflection on the work of Beton Ltd., which shows visitors the way from another direction.

Sunday, May 15 at 6 p.m. – Tjaša Pureber: We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting for to Resign
In an age of populism, growing neo-fascism, war, capitalist extractivism, and pervasive social devastation, there is no such thing as the position of a neutral visitor. In this case, neutrality is merely an acceptance of the status quo. Supporting repression. Thus, there are only two options in this world: resignation or rebellion.

Sunday, May 15 at 7 p.m. – Jure Novak: opus caementicium
A practical act of self-historiography
In a guided simulation of the creative process, Beton ltd. will ritually perform a practical act of self- historiography.
You are welcome to watch and express moral support.

Visit to the performation is free of charge, reservations for guided tours are mandatory. Please make a reservation at: info@bunker.si
