Luka Martin Škof & Nika Švab: TRANS-Plant

In a study performed by the British Royal Horticultural Society, researchers discovered that talking to your plants really can help them grow faster. They also found that plants grow faster to the sound of a female voice. In Plant, Slovene director Luka Martin Škof in the role of performer speaks to an avocado and owned by Slovene dramaturge Nika Švab. Who do we talk to when we talk to plants? And is caring for them caring for ourselves? What does the monologue reveal about the state of theatre when this narrative is placed in the everyday scene of sitting at the table, with the performer sitting on one chair and the avocado on the other? The position of the female performer Nika Švab, which speaks about the plant instead of to the plant – points to the differences in the perception of the plants. In talking with plants and about plants, do we thing in the same way as when we talk to a person or about a person? The human attitude towards plants reflects our humanity and reveals human nature.
