Kviss búmm bang: GALA – Celebration of Minorities

The projects of the Icelandic collective Kviss búmm bang can be described as documentary and participatory theater, as they are usually created in the city where they are performed. Using an ironic approach, their works often offer the audience a new perspective.
In Maribor, the Icelandic artists will present GALA – Celebration of Minorities, a performance developed within the European project Global City – Local City, which explores the concept of groups and minorities in the broadest sense. When does a group become a minority? What can be defined as a “minority” and what as “normal”? Who has the authority to make these definitions?

Kviss búmm bang invited various groups to participate and, through a collaborative process, delved beneath the surface of everyday life. With a witty and playful style, the artists confront seemingly “normal” norms with the often invisible dominance of the majority and the position of minorities in society.
