Barbara Novakovič: SLEEP|FORMS, LANDSCAPES, CREATURES
The performance draws on the rich iconography of sleeping depictions from the Old (Ezekiel, Job) and New Testament and is based on texts by Descartes, St. Augustine and some other literary sources and visual artists who have studied sleep.
“At the visual level, we are witnessing a mixture of changing and remaining that suits the richness of the dream world, yet the incomprehensibility of its space from which we are alienated – at least if we are not versed In understanding dreams – and which can therefore also bring entrapment. A similar ambiguity is also found in the choreography, which ranges between gracefulness and fragility, between stiffness and twitching. At certain points, the actress’s expressive face and the play of lights interact perfectly. As if the distance between the stage and the audience would suddenly and mysteriously disappear.”
